What is counselling?

  • A confidential setting for exploring difficult issues.
  • A skilled professional offering insight and explanation when needed.
  • A place where you can explore yourself without the presence of judgement, in the presence of an objective caring professional.
  • An opportunity for you to make changes in yourself and in your life.
  • A place to explore themes and inconsistencies in your life which create problems for you.
  • A time to reflect and grow toward your life goals.
  • Stress Management
  • Grounding Techniques

How can counselling help?

People have counselling for many reasons. To better understand yourself and your interactions. You may be feeling generally dissatisfied with life, or have a desire for personal growth.

Or there may be something more specific such as:
  • Relationships/Family
  • Loss/Bereavement
  • Anxiety/Stress
  • Depression
  • Addictions
  • Eating Disorders
  • Loss of Meaning
  • Relationship Issues
  • Past Abuse
  • Low Self-Worth
Counselling offers a safe place for you to express your thoughts and feelings about whatever is troubling you. To look beyond the immediate problem in order to gain new insights and possibilities for a more fulfilling life.

What I can do for you:

I am committed to providing counselling in a Safe, Confidential, Empathic & Non Judgemental environment. Regular counselling can help highlight the areas where change may be needed in order to break unhelpful patterns enabling you to gain a better understanding of yourself. I aim to provide a safe supportive environment for you to explore whatever it is that you are struggling with, and facilitate you in your process of healing and achieving emotional wellness. I aim to achieve this by providing professional, individual, and group counselling.

I am a Registered Professional Counsellor with the Canadian Professional Counsellors Association, and licensed through the Canadian College of Professional Counsellors and Psychotherapists.

I have worked in the counselling field for over seven years, focusing on both youth and adults struggling with various traumas and life difficulties.  Besides working in private practice, I have also worked with Family Services of Greater Vancouver and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. I am certified and registered in Counselling and Social Services with a specialty in Family Support.

I employ various therapeutic techniques:

  • Person-Centered
  • Solution Focused
  • Cognitive Behavioural
  • Reality
  • Gestalt
  • Guided Imagery
  • Stress Management
  • Grounding Techniques

How do I start?

We normally meet for an initial assessment session lasting one hour. We look at why you are considering counselling at this stage and what you hope to achieve. I believe a vital aspect of counselling is working with the right person, this initial session provides an opportunity to explore that further.

You may be worried about a painful experience in the past, or a difficult situation in the present. You may want to explore your own personal growth and development, or talk through a difficult decision. At the initial session you can discuss your situation, and decide if you want to go ahead.

Following this initial meeting if you would like to begin work, we would normally meet weekly for sessions lasting 50 minutes. The number of sessions that we agree upon will vary depending on the issues you feel you would like to discuss and resolve.

How long does counselling take?

I work with both short and long-term counselling. The number of sessions that you may need will depend very much on the issues you feel the need to discuss and resolve. Short term work can be useful when dealing with a specific crisis or when grappling with a specific issue. Changing more established patterns can take longer. This is something we would discuss and jointly agree on.
